It could be said that these maps and tools used for building them, are the scaffolding children need to develop complex texts in both, oral and written language.

Representing scenes

If you look for another way of enjoying the story, let your students make groups and represent an scene by being statues. Another child has to go through the groups and describe what is happening in each scene.

Non fiction: "I SPY AN ALPHABET IN ART"

This is a wonderful non-fiction book for year 1 that can be used to play the game "I spy with my little eye...". This way, children are learning the alphabet and also knowing famous artworks.
We can ask children different question to elicit answers:

- What can you see in the picture?
- Can you find something begining with...?
- . . .

Comparing and contrasting both stories using Inspiration

After this map, the tool used gives the opportunity to create a presentation so that children can retell the story to their classmates by having a look at key words and pictures of the story.
It´s a way of providing SCAFFOLDING to children, to make them feel confident when talking in English.

Year 6

It´s an adventure book for year 6. The main character is Michael, a young boy that travels with his parents around the world. One day they had an accident and Michael and the family´s dog fall down outside the Peggy Sue, the family´s boat. After this event, Michael and his dog live lots of adventures, that you´ll discover if you read this fantastic book!

Following Peggy Sue´s trip using Tripline:

Michael´s trip

This tool is perfect to visualize Michael´s trip. Children could make a small research about the places Michael and his family visit, and include the information and pictures they get in the application. Besides that, they can review the book and include the facts and information it gives.

When children are familiar with the tool and have completed Michael´s trip, they´ll probably feel like doing their own dream trip. Here is an example:
